the beauty of ballet

I hate it when people have that dismissive attitude when I say I love ballet, and when I say I love ballet even if that passion might not seem so strong on the outside, it most certainly is on the inside. Ballet is so much more than that cliche: the dancing on your 'toes' (well you got it wrong, it's so much more sophisticated than that), the arms above your head in some retarded position and the dorkishness associated with it all. Well, I'm sorry, ballet is so much cooler than that.

Ballet is a little like acting, except much harder and demanding. I suppose all you see are those images of skinny anoxeric dancers who seem to dance on their twinkle toes, trust me, you need MUSCLE to dance and a lot of it. It could be easily argued that ballet is one of the most physically and mentally draining sport.

Why do I love it so much? I guess its the alter-ego I can assume when I dance; you can be anything and for once, you actually can be a princess or a swan or an evil woman. It's something about the attitude, the grace, the shoes, the everything that makes ballet somewhat glamorous.

So for those who thought ballet was for sissies, you've got it wrong.

You know what I also hate? I hate it when people think you have to be stick-thin and anorexic to be good at ballet. It annoys me when you are shunned from ever possible having potential because of how your genetic makeup. Yes, ballet is an aesthetic sport and it always will be but don't assume until you see what people really can do.

I think Polina Seminova can tell you the rest. Honestly, watch this video. =D www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz2Gp7a38DM
