HOPMAN CUP STARTS TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!! I saw the ad for it on Channel 10 which I rarely watch. Thank gawwwwwwwwwwd. Tennis on a free-to-air channel. It's kind of strange it's starting on New Year's Day. PLUS it starts from 9.20 which means I pretty can watch it the whole day.
I don't mean to be unpatriotic, but I really don't think Australia's going to win. I'm going to go for Britain.
Lleyton Hewitt and Alicia MOlik are the Aussies and they're a bit over their peak.
I am so annoyed right now. This morning I woke up and sat down on my chair to take my contacts out only to SIT on my headband, the one Veronica gave me. (Sorry Veronica!) I NEED A HEADBAND and I look atrocious in any other headband. =( Well, let's put it this way: I look atrocious in any headband, but this one was slightly better. IT SNAPPED!!!!!!!!!! ARGHHHH!!!!!
So now, I'm going to have random wispy bits of hair flying everywhere and using bobby pins is useless because they have the tendency to sneak out of their place and your hair gets IN YOUR FACE.
I went shopping tonight and couldn't find it at Diva. Those few weeks with that headband were the most non-hair-in-face weeks of my life. R.I.P beloved headband
Yesterday, I went with my parents to partake in the usual post-Christmas sales at DFO. DFO is awesome. That should be (and is in my mind) a universally known fact. It has all these awesome brands with all these awesome sales. It's just crazy. Well, anyway, this year, we thought we'd get there early. DFO was due to open at 10 and we thought why not get there at 9:20. I actually thought there would be nobody. I mean, who would be bothered to wake up early, JUST to be the first to get inside a shopping centre? Me, obviously, because that's precisely what I did.
Despite the fact that we got there well ahead of the opening time, we had to park out ages away from the doors. When we entered the shopping centre, which was open surprisingly (but the shops weren't), there was this massive queue at Oroton, which has mega expensive handabgs, wallets, sunnies etc, with handbags at around $400 on average. It was at this moment that my mum fell into the pit of consumerism. Or maybe it's that vulnerable part of the human psyche that likes to imitate what others do. In this case, it was seeing the 50% off sign and lining up outside Oroton. This is where I should be sighing. But no, I joined my mum in that queue. There were probably about 50 people already in front of us. By the time it was 10AM and the store was opening, there must have been 300. I kid you not.
Then realising that we would be going inside Oroton, we had to buy a bag. It went without saying. There were women literally grabbing every handbag within reach and hoarding them because of the limited numbers. There was this small handbag that looked nice and relatively modest and I went to pick it up. I didn't realise that it belonged to this other woman because there were about 6 other bags alongside it. The Asian woman then got really angry at me for touching it and saying that all the bags were her's. o.0
We did end up buying a bag for a reasonable price, that looked good. I kept thinking, I really could buy exactly the same bag, except fake, in China for a tenth of the price. =D
My dad spent the whole time sitting outside and spent the rest of the day complaining about how these brands were so stupid, and why did women have to spend so long looking for clothes, couldn't they just buy the pair of pants for god sake? He then went on to say that if you wanted to be rich, sell handbags. A wise statement daddy. I wouldn't buy anything the whole day until we got to Dotti. Everything, despite being on sale, was still expensive, or maybe just for me. I won't buy anything unless it's udner $20. Anyway, if you want to buy from Dotti, and can't afford the stuff at Westfield, you HAVE to go to the DFO store. It's so so so much cheaper. Skirts that were once $50 were now $10 or $6 and dresses were $10 to $20. My mum and I plucked every single item (under $20) that I was willing to try on. I had to wait at elast 15 minutes for a spot in the dressing room =='. That's how many people there were. I ended up buying a skirt and a dress and felt proud that I had found an honest discount out of the whole day. It was already 2PM and we had only seen one half of DFO.
We went to Yum cha straight away because we were starving and ate up. I have decided that I really like Yum Cha, only because everything is fried and if not so, has meat in it. =D I used to dislike it because you had to wait for a person to come round with their trolley.
My dad did eventually find out the price of the Oroton bag but didn't seem to mind too much. Consumerism doesn't taste too bad after all. :)
It's that time of the year where I would realise I will no longer have to be bored because THERE'S GONNA BE TENNIS ON THE TELLY. Yes, that's right.
What we have for January is:
- Brisbane International 2-9 January - Medibank International (Sydney) 9-15 January - Moorilla International (Hobart) 7-13 January - AUSTRALIAN OPEN!!! (Melbourne) 17-30 January
I am really annoyed because the Aus Open isn't showing on Channel 7 this year. IT's going to be on Fox Sports and I don't have Foxtel. NOW, what am I going to spend otherwise meaningless mornings and afternoons doing?????? I guess I probably wouldn't be able to because I'm getting dragged to work every day. =='
Hopefully, the Brisbane and Medibank int. are being shown on Channel 7 and also because Sam's going to be in them YEEEEP!!!!!!
So I guess it comes with it being the day, Merry Christmas to all!!! I think many people picked up on it, but for me personally, it didn't have the same vibes as it has before. Normally, I wake up and actually think, "Oh my gosh. It's Christmas Day!!!". Today was more like...
- wake up, yawn. Another day, here goes - the gradual crawl out of bed - knee joints feel arthritic - sleepy eyes happen to see the teddy reindeer bear that i opened the night before (it was an accident =D) - Hey... is it Christmas? I should be excited, right. Maybe it's because I used to get more presents and the fact that we used to go to more family barbeques. But it's just not the same. I did go to a really fun barbeque last night though.
I didn't know anyone, at all. I spent the first hour or so sheepishly following my mum around eating stuff. The people who were closest to my age were these people in their early 20s. My mum forced me into socialising with them by offering me to help them on the barbeque. They turned out to be really nice except they kept calling me Linda and I really couldn't be stuffed to correct them, also out embarassment. So, here's to me being Linda in the eyes of three people on this world.
I actually found myself laughing with them even though I couldn't really communicate much. Well, I could because they could all speak and understand English except they were talking to each other in Cantonese and didn't reaise I couldn't speak until ages later. Anyway, we had heaps of fun trying to write XMAS with sparklers with other people taking photos. It took us ages to get it rate but we got it, eventually. The first time, we realised we had to do it back to front and that none of the letters were actually letters but a general scribble. The second time, the guy on the end was doing his 's' the wrong way so it looked like XMAZ. THe third time, my a looked like an o so it was XMOZ. Then the fifth time, we finally got XMAS.
Then we tried to do shooting stars with a heart in the middle. There were two peopel doing stars, with two other people doing the line for the shooting star and the guy in the middle doing the heart. It ended up looking like two stars, a heart and a general cafuzzle of scribble on the ends. It was pretty hilariouis =D
Anyway, here are my two fave Christmas songs:
It's kind of weird to like a Christmas song sung by an old man but ti's really pretty. =D I'll probably never have a white Christmas though =(.
This is a version by Celtic Woman. The only part I don't like about is the American accent of the first woman. I love the Drummer Boy. It's got a soft rhythm that goes right through you.
My first day of the holidays - BLERGHHHHH. What am I to do? Yes - the attitude or perspective many of us, I believe had (and possibly still have) of the holidays.
I occupy my time by: - eating - cooking random things - scrapbooking (and failing because I realise I really can't be bothered) - walking a lot outdoors
Surprisingly, walking around my neighbourhood has been heaps of fun. Normally I'm not allowed outdoors because I'm made to stay at home, but having 'come of age' <-mother, I can now roam free, and so I have. I dont' even know my suburb that well even though I've lived here for quite a while. I love walking into shops and just snooping around looking at random food items and objects without any intention of buying things, but then you receive the almight deadly glare of the shopkeeper.
Today, i walked into the newsagency and spent 10 or so minutes reading a pocketbook on chocolate recipes out of view from the shopkeeper. After a while, it sort of became awkward, because he started clearing his throat and I felt bad for not buying anything so I sort of ran/walked out of the shop.
For lunch, I decided to make a vegie stir-fry and toss in noodles. It sounds really cool right. Let me add, it was seasoned with sesame oil and a pinch of pepper. Turned out to be a total diusaster. The garlic I put in was there for too long so I had random bits of black in my glorious lunch. There was so much pepper, you could hardly taste anything else. But such adventures are glorious for their failure.
The thing is, I spent so much time in the sun that I feel sunburnt now D=
I do have stuff to look forward to now with heaps of outings XD
Camembert cheese is SOOO yummy. It's basically a round cheese that has a white and soft rind and is GOOEY on the inside. It's like cold melted cheese on the inside. It's sooo good with crackers or just randomly eating away with a spoon. TEEHEE. I love cheese now. I also love olives but that's another story.
This year has been a long long year and with every year, there is an ultimate lesson. (It hasn't actually finished but I had to eventually.)
Deep & Meaningful Lesson 2010: The most important thing is to always have the best family family and friends. Rotten friends in particular only make life a miserable existence and that waste is not worth it. Also, always listen to the little voice that tells you that deep down, this person is a load of ******************************. That voice never lies but that person will.
Ballet Lesson 2010: The key to the most gorgeous arabesque, allegro exercise or performance is the passion. No matter how fat or ugly or horrible your technique, one thing no one can take away from you is the light that shines from you when you think of dance, see dance or just dance.
Food Lesson 2010: Slightly burnt toast is yummy.
Blogger Lesson 2010: Blogging is COOOOOOOLLLLLLL and Shoutboxes can be incredibly annoying.
School Lesson 2010: Laptops are incredibly distracting and incredibly convenient all at the same time.
Favourite day of the year so far: There was this one day in ballet early in the year where I was learning all these new exercises. You see, prior to this year, I was pretty much a semi-ballet-noob. 2010 has been a year where I have really learnt ballet. But this one day, I was just having so much fun. As I began my first plie, I felt so grateful for the art of ballet and what it lets me do. I was free. I got asked to demonstrate the study because of my artistry and performance that same day. I was just so happy.
What I learnt: Even if one day, you lose the thing you love most, always remember the days when you realised how much you did love them.
Most revealing day of the year so far: The day I came home really really depressed and it must have showed in my face. I told my parents what had gone wrong at school and I just completely broke down in front of them. I don't think I have ever felt so much support and love before, or realised it. What I learnt: Never underestimate how much your parents actually care for you.
I am sick. Actually, I don't think it was because of Eve's sneezing, rub-nosing, coughing, phlegming, sickness that makes me feel retarded. (also perfect timing for my piano exam this morning ==')
but GAH. I HATE BEING SICK. My throat feels weird, like there's sandpaper at the back and clogged up at the same time.
List of stuff I feel like drinking/eating:
- a really good MANGO SMOOTHIEEEEEEEEE, from Boost would be good. There dairy-free ones are so good because it's basically just mango nectar =D
- mango frappe with mango jelly
- A COLD MANGO
- green tea ice cream =D
- raw/smoked salmon
- lemon sorbet
- lemon meringue
- lemon cheesecake
- a cup of mango nectar with crushed ice
- honey lemon drink
You know what? I JUST WANT SOME MANGOSSSSSSSSSSS XD
I passed the exam. YAY! That means now, every day after school, I DON'T HAVE TO PRACTISE PIANO.
Thank you to Carrie for explaining to me what 'equal temperament was' because I WAS asked what it was and I think the examiner was surprised I knew it. =D
Piano exam coming up. Righteo! practice, practice, practice, practice, some more practice, practice this, practice that, practice that damn trill that never works anyway with my demented fingers. According to my mum, I actually used to LIKE piano. o.0. I can't quite see that I'm sorry. EXAM STRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
For those who have experienced the mental trauma of preparing for a piano exam (Grade 7+), you can share with me in the deep pit of frustration. It is psychologically tiring. Some days,I WANT TO BASH UP THE PIANO.I also think my neighbours hate me, because of my awesome beautiful dear piano-playing-at-night-when-you-are-super-tired-from-work. That's not to mention the all-too-endearing experience I had when I was preparing for my Grade 4 exam a couple years back, this involving a rather confuddled neighbour who clearly did not... lend to my gorgeous repetitive piano tunes.
No ballet for a week =(. Why? PIANO EXAM. Can someone please kill me with a water pistol or something? Ok. I have absolutely nothing against the artform of piano playing. In fact, I actually really like listening to piano playing, (when it's played by a professional). Me playing it? Let's not go there. The piano and I share a rather interesting hate - HATE relationship.
On a more happy note:
I was talking to my mum about the Bush Dance and having to have a dress and everything and I mentioned to her about how Veronica is making her own dress. (By the way, my mum thinks your amazing Veronica. She was like, "You should be more like Veronica; hard working and determined.") So, my mum has decided TO MAKE ME A 1950s DRESS!!!!!! YAY! Actually, I don't think she realises how much time it will take. Well, my mum is pretty good when it comes to needle (sewing machine for use modern-time people) and cloth. I told her about the petticoat being a stressful section and she still doesn't mind making it! =D I can't believe my mum actually offered to make me a dress. It's so nice of her and she never seems to have the time to do anything like that for me. I love you mumsypie (hehe). =D
I am so excited. Finally, after a half year's of nonchalance and another half year of mega hard work, I finally get to have an exam. But, seriously, it feels like each year is going by way too fast. I am aging too fast. I must rewind to the careless days where time did not matter, as long as the ice cream was within reach, Playschool was on or you had no homework for a week, without even realising.
P.S - I think I've developed stalkerish skills. I googled my examiner. She seems nice.
- New Zealander
- smiles in photos
P.SS - futuer employer who may be reading this. You can trust that I will be less stalkerish later in life. =D
The best part was being away from home. The worst part is DOING THE WORK WHEN YOU GET BACK TO SCHOOOOOOOLLLLLL. Hello Sydney. Did you know the grass is actually
GREEEN
in Armidale. It's not just green, it's really green GREEN. I basically meant this kind of GREEN.
You get the idea. You should learn a thing or two. Good quality ice cream should not cost $5 for a 'large' scoop (Armidale extra small). It should cost $2. And large hot chocolates + complementary marshmallows should be $4.50. Learn to not have traffic and have S P A C E. The previous two mentioned will most likely never happen.
I am sitting here in my chair nursing my seriously bruised toenails. That is the fine thanks you get for practising in your pointe shoes for two hours. I sit here in contemplation of what this sacrifice (not simply physical) really is for. Well, yes, for my exam, but I really want to do more than simply perform in front of an examiner. I really want to perform in front of a real audience on a real stage.
I suppose it's the same with school exams. We make sacrifices (or not - cramming the night before IS a sacrifice =D) to do as well as we can but for those results to come to any avail, you'd have to use them in pursuing something much greater.
This fine line distinguishes my world of ballet and school. The furthest I will ever get to performing I think EVER will be at the CIS Awards Night. Quite frankly, that's nothing. If there was anything I could wish I for, it would be to be given the opportunity to perform somewhere sometime, which of course involves classes and time and to put it into one word, sacrifice. I'd have to put up with coming with.. bruised toenails and a sore brain, YES YOU DO ACTUALLY HAVE TO USE YOUR BRAIN A LOT IN BALLET and not having much energy to lift anything but a pen let alone put it to paper.
On the other hand, you'd have to look at it this way. A ballet class works like a tonic: it really makes you forget your pain, your distress and anything else that hurts. After all, when you dance, you really do become another person.
Sometimes I just think of the other life I could live. It would all have to start when I was just 4 and started ballet lessons. I would attend all the possible classes, end up going to a school for dancers, finish Solo Seal when I am 15. Not only that, every year, there would be the annual Classical Ballet Concert where each class put forward a piece of repertoire. There would be the Eisteddfords and finally the Premier State Ballet. I could work my butt off for that prize: a scholarship to the Austrailan/Royal/English National/New Zealand/Royal Winnipeg/Mariinsky/Bolshoi/Berlin/Paris Opera/Kirov/Birmingham/ABT Ballet School. I could maybe get a contract and be a corps de ballet dancer for my whole life BUT THAT WOULDN'T MATTER. I could still exist in that ballet world even if I was that person on the side who did 9 hours of training a day to stand on the side in one pose for a few minutes.
But I will never will. I won't even get CLOSE to that at all. Then there's the money problem. It's not that affordable to have the classes I have at the moment and that's only for 4 and a half hours a week. Then of course there's the relentess cost of uniform. 3 * leotards at least so that you don't wear the same one every day - up to $180, at least 2 * pointe shoes to last the year - up to $130 each pair including ribbons and toe pads, at least 2/3 * pairs demi-pointes, they get scuffed really easily - up to $110 including ribbons. If you would like to comply with the general 'other' uniform - pair of shorts $30, pair of warm up pants $30, pair of leg warmers $20, pair of feet warmers $20, crossover $30, warmup 'jumper' $30. Performances - bodystocking $40, new everything, certain type of tights, cost for costumes which can be up to $100. Exams - new everything, leotard, tights, shoes. Yes - money does make the world go around. Money would make things a lot easier. It hurts to know that to do what I love, it has to hurt another.
I'd think that watching the Act 3 Grand Pas de Deux in Swan Lake would make me feel a little better. I really do think it hurts just that little more.
I have a serious love-hate relationship with parties. I love parties because well, hey, PARTY TIME. The fact that there is free food on offer, generally not the wholesome kind. For that very same reason, I hate them.
It's a strange thing conscience. It doesn't quite hit you after you've committed the greatest sin which today was eating:
- a slice of totally evil cake - eating more than half the chocolate on offer - eating a mini Crunchie - drinking more than half a Sunkist - drinking coconut milk - watermelon slices even though i was REALLY full - watching Anita's pigeon eat seeds and thinking YUM
When I walked back to the car, I thought I SHOULD NOT HAVE EATEN THAT AT ALL
So basically this proves my hypothesis to be quite true: Parties = gorge = fat That's not to say Anita's party was not fun. It was. Despite the fact I only spent 1 and a half hours there, YOU ARE SO ORIGINAL AND UNIQUE AND FRANKLY YOU'RE QUITE COOL. =D
But anyway, my previous hypothesis brings me to yet another hypothesis presented by Eve on several occasions, shall we say, on a daily basis? "YOU'RE FAT"
We were in the science lab and getting our marks back. For some odd strange reason, we had Ms Knapman as our science teacher. No one was really freaking out and I was having a massive panic attack at the back and Eve and Anita kept giving me looks that indicated I was insane. Well, I am. But that's not the point.
So we were getting our marks back and I went up to the front to collect my paper and as I picked it up, Ms Knapman said in a really creepy scary voice, "You did very badly. Very badly. I am not surprised." I ran back to my table at the back and looked at the marks on the front. It said 42. i freaked out. I looked through the paper to see where I went wrong and saw that I didn't do half the paper, I had just not done it at all. For the multiple choice section, all my answers were wrong.
Everyone was smiling when they were getting their marks back and asking other people what they got. Ms Knapman then asked several people to tell the class what they thought about their marks. She asked me first and I said that I make mistakes too often. Her eyes narrowed and she shouted, "You certainly do make mistakes. Not only, you're STUPID."
I repeated, "Yes, I am stupid and my marks show that."
"Tell us what you got."
"42"
"See everyone? This is what you don't get in a science exam. Don't be STUPID."
I don't think anything quite can come on par with the Black Swan Pas de Deux. One day, I WILL dance this and I WILL learn it and I would so want to perform it. That's a dream, that I wish would come true. I think this goes down as not a goal but as a wish that I want to come to fulfil. I sing this tune day and night, in the car, in the shower, when I'm dancing =D
Today I went to ********* library and spent the whole time looking at recipe books. Honestly, I am so obsessed with examining the way oil glistens on a beef bok choy stir fry or the gloss of meringue. This is an unhealthy obsession. Before you know it, you find yourself in the kitchen eating food all day long. I was supposed to be in the library looking for books to borrow but I ended up borrowing about 5 recipe books. One was a book about cupcakes =D
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE. CUPCAKES.
I am the holy grail about all-about-cupcakes. Well, not really. You see, up until about a month ago, I had always found the idea of junk food a little disconcerting despite the fact that I eat it daily. The idea of eating fat and sugar disgusted me. Just think about it. Take 100g of saturated animal fat and mix it with sugar. Then as Eve wisely pointed out, THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT DELICIOUSLY YUMMY CUPCAKE ICING IS MADE OUT OF. =='
How could I be so dumb? butter + sugar = fat + sugar = FATNESS YOU IDIOTHEAD
So there upon my soul was a revelation indeed. It never occurred to me that of all the things I did know about cupcakes, which is basically that they are yummyyyyyy and are made out of flour, eggs, sugar and butter, I DIDN'T REALISE THEY FIT INTO MY FATNESS CATEGORY which they do now.
So I spent a rather large portion of my day examining every laser-printed image of these glorious little fat-cakes. If I were to write out a list of all the cupcakes I was interested in eating, you might as well eat the book. CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP
I have also come to be obsessed with lemon meringue. I have no idea why. I think I had a piece once in Year 7 or something when the cafateria was selling these mini ones. Anyway, I also spent time on taste.com searching pictures of FOOD
A prince, heir to a great kingdom must declare a wife at a ball held in his honour on his birthday. In despair at not being able to marry for love, he escapes from the ball and into the forest. Seeing a flock of swans, he aims his crossbow at the creatures only to see that one of these creatures is in fact more woman than swan, simply dressed in white feathers. She reveals to him that she is the princess Odette and has been cursed by the sorcerer Von Rothbart so that she is swan by day and woman by night. Enamoured by her beauty, the two dance.
Quite simply, out of pity, he falls in love with Odette. As he swears his love, an act which would break the spell, Rothbart appears and the prince threatens to kill him. Odette stops him: if Rothbart is killed before the spell is broken, she is to remain a swan for eternity.
The Prince returns to his ball and Rothbart arrives in disguise with his daughter Odile who seduces the prince while pretending to be Odette. Thinking that she is Odette, he proclaims before everyone that he shall marry her but at this very moment, Rothbart shows him a magical vision of the real Odette and realises his mistake.
The prince returns to the lake and is forgiven by Odette. Rothbart appears appears and tries to separate the two lovers. The prince and Odette realise that because of his pledge to Odile, the spell can no longer be broken. Together, the two leap into Swan Lake and drown. Rothbart too dies for he no longer has power.
