Pictures speak a thousand words.... at the ballet (#2)

Gilian Murphy as Odette in Swan Lake

an old painting of one of the first ballet academies that were opened in Paris, the homeland of ballet. i admire their dresses, efficiently tied back with lengthy ribbon

Gilian Murphy again... not sure what ballet. the elegance she maintains in this position is beyond my understanding

Eva Edvokimova as the cheeky sylphide in La Sylphide

Eva Evdokimova as a shy Odette in Swan Lake

the piquant Ekaterina Maximova, absolutely luminous in expression and movement

let us speak wise words. ;)

"Movement does not exist outside of the human body. To become a true dancer means to bring to ideal balance the physical impossibilities of your stubborn imperfect body with the possibilities of your soul. Which, as you move through life is continually renewing itself and demanding new expression."
- Natalia Makarova

"Don't ask what the world needs. As what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world eeds is people who have come alive."

"Experience is the name every one gives to their mistakes."
- for Eve's sake: Oscar Wilde

"The most important things in life aren't things."

It never becomes easy—it becomes possible. The effort involved in making a dancer’s body is so long and relentless, in many instances painful, the effort to maintain the technique so grueling that unless a certain satisfaction is derived from the disciplining and the punishing, the pace could not be maintained.”
- Agnes de Mille
